What is Indie Rock?
Indie rock is a subgenre of music that began to form in the 1980s. The term originally referred to bands that weren't signed to a major label, thus being "independant", referenced as indie.
Characteristics of Indie Rock
Because the genre is defined by label status instead of musical tone, there aren't any specific musical elements that define Indie Rock. However, it is commonplace for artist to experiment with styles and sounds considered untenable for mainstream acts.
